{disgusting}

Yup, I still hate them. Ever since I can remember I have hated home cooked lentils. You know those dried soup mixes from the grocery store with about a million kinds of beans and lentils- I could never eat it. For the past several weeks, all I have wanted to do was to try to like lentils. They're cheap. They're healthy. Why shouldn't I like them, right? Tonight, I decided to give them another shot, with a highly recommended recipe even, and still- g.r.o.s.s.! I have cured my dislike of mushrooms. I have cured my dislike of bananas. But home cooked lentils...it's just not happening. You know, I think the only kind of lentils I have ever liked are the curried ones from Indian restaurants. Unfortunately, I am scared to death of cooking Indian foods. I feel like I would butcher it. Anyone have any sure recipes to convert me to the world of lentils? Maybe an Indian recipe that I just can't ruin? Help!

Hi Sarah, I buy the dried 15 bean soup, soak them all night and in the morning throw the beans in the crock pot covered with fresh water and stir the mix in them that comes in the bag and put in a very large ham hock (or the left-over bone from the Sunday spiral sliced ham) and cook all day while I am at work on low! I love it but the only bad thing is that it does not freeze well! It is lovely with home-mae cornbread or I cheat and buy some from the deli at the commissary - depends on how many hours I worked that day!As you can tell my recipes take a lot of time and exact measurement!Not much of a cook, Your loving Aunt Susan

I am so sorry you don't like lentils--I love them! Jordan won't eat them either though, so I don't have any good rcipes for them.
